A pull-on western boot with a square toe. Punchy is the word the industry uses for the sharper, showier end of western dress, and the name sets the expectation before the boot does.

A mid-height shaft is arguably the most useful in western footwear. It clears the calf properly, so the shaft holds its line instead of collapsing at the ankle the way a shorter boot does, but it stops before the height starts making the boot hard to get into. The square toe balances that: broad across the front, flat along the top line, giving the foot room and the profile some weight.

A boot with nothing to fasten lives or dies on how it is cut, so buy it on the pull. It should take one firm effort to clear the instep and then settle with the heel held. Try them at the end of the day, when your feet have spread as far as they are going to. Then wear them the way the shaft is drawn for, with a straight leg falling over the top.
