The midsole is dual-density, and that is the detail that separates this from a boot merely claiming comfort. The heel section is firmer for shock absorption and stability; the forepart is softer for flexibility. Your foot does two different things at two different moments of a step, and this one is built to acknowledge that.

The outsole follows the same logic. It is a multi-durometer rubber: high abrasion outer lugs for impact durability, softer durometer mid lugs for flexibility and for increased slip and oil resistance. A single row sole stitch runs around the square toe for added durability, and the heel is a rocker. The rolled shank area works with an anti-torsion rigid external shank to add lateral stability, which is what stops an ankle rolling on broken ground.

The safety story is stated plainly rather than implied. Impact testing determines how much protection the toe gives under various foot pounds of force; compression testing determines how much static pressure the composite cap can withstand; these are rated I75/C75. The electrical hazard construction is nail-free, built to insulate from the ground and slow conduction — it is not intended as primary protection against electric shock, and the leather must be dry for it to work, which the maker says outright. The boots meet and exceed the ASTM electrical hazard standards.

Brown, waterproof and composite-toed: cold weather, wet ground, live current. It is a specific boot for a specific week, and if that is your week there is not much competition.
